The long-awaited change to the HSBC Reward Redemption system will finally be in place on 28 May 2024.

I was browsing the HSBC website when I came across an important notice that had been plastered.

It indicated that reward redemption would be temporarily paused from 20 May to 27 May 2024.

The HSBC system upgrade will be taking place from 20 to 27 May 2024.

During this period, reward redemptions via all channels will be unavailable.

These include —

Phone BankingOnline BankingHSBC Singapore mobile applicationThe Upgraded System Will Go Live On 28 May 2024

With the upgraded system, there will be a few changes that are important to me as a casual air miles collector.

Most importantly, redemptions can only be done via the HSBC Singapore mobile app after the system upgrade.

The new unified reward system will essentially mirror the existing TravelOne reward system.

Redemptions via phone banking and online banking will cease.Total reward points across all HSBC credit cards will be pooled together. This won’t affect you if you have only one HSBC credit card.The expiration date for rewards points expiring on 31 May 2024 will be extended to 30 June 2024 to account for the system downtime.The annual fee for the mileage programme will cease.

In my case, I have already paid for the annual service and made multiple redemptions.

What will happen to users like me?

I found the answer in this article, which explained that HSBC will offer a full refund of the Mileage Programme annual fee, which is nice.
