Looking back, it has been more than ten years since I had my first taste of business class travel.

Back then, I remember that my wife and I had booked a package deal (well, they had the cheapest prices) with a tour agency for our Qatar Airways flights plus a stay at Alila Uluwatu, and they came back to us to ask if we wanted to upgrade our seats to business class by topping up a small sum of money, which we gladly did.

There was little demand for those seats, and most of them were empty during our flight.

And thus, our adventures with business class flights began.

Fast forward a few years, and we started learning about how we could extract value from non-discretionary expenses that we would have incurred anyway and magically transform the act of spending money into free air miles.

It IS fun to do rich people’s stuff without paying rich people’s price tags.

Besides, vacations are always extra memorable when I can bring my wife and family on subsidised trips that sometimes include the business class experience.

Travel has always been about making memories for me, and I would gladly spend more to do so.

Even if it was just a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I figured it would be worth it to indulge in a little fun.
